Crypto cards and gambling: what the terms say

Photo: Kevin Kandlbinder / Unsplash

14 cards read from the issuer’s own documents. 2 prohibit gambling outright in at least one document, 1 reserve a right to block it, 2 prohibit only illegal gambling, and 5 could not be verified because the terms would not load. A card’s issuer sees the merchant code at the till, so this is where a casino deposit gets declined.

In short, from the documents

How many cards on the register name gambling in their terms?

7 of the 14 crypto and debit cards on this register have a gambling rule in a document the issuer publishes. 2 prohibit gambling outright, 1 reserves a right to block it, 1 blocks gambling merchant codes and 2 prohibit only illegal gambling. 2 say nothing about it. 5 could not be verified.

Where the cards are documented

Each country is shaded by how many of the 14 cards have cardholder documents written for its region. Pick a country for the cards and what their documents say.

US, UK and EEA are the regions the card documents name. EEA is the 27 EU states with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Four findings from the card terms
  1. The strictest wording sits in help centres and app terms, not in the bank’s contract.

Crypto.com’s US cardholder agreement prohibits only illegal gambling. Its help centre says gambling services are restricted, and its One-Time Card terms list betting and gambling as prohibited. A declined casino payment is what the help centre predicts and what the contract alone would not.

  2. On a credit card, gambling is priced as a cash advance.

The Coinbase One Card agreement reserves the right to prohibit internet gambling merchants and treats lottery tickets, gaming chips and racetrack wagers as cash advances, at $10 or 5% each, whichever is greater.

  3. Revolut’s gambling block works on merchant codes, and its own page says what gets through.

The block is off by default, refuses payments to merchants using gambling codes, and takes up to 48 hours to lift. The help page states that a merchant using a different code to hide gambling is not stopped.

  4. Gnosis Pay’s card stops working on 20 December 2026.

The formal notice is dated 21 September 2026. Card and web app stop at 23:59 UTC on 20 December 2026, with withdrawals excluded from the web app closure.

The register

Filter by the gambling position and by region. The position is the strictest statement the issuer publishes, and every entry shows which document each clause came from, so a help-centre line is never passed off as the contract.

Disclosure: CryptoGuardz has no commercial relationship with any card issuer on this page, carries no referral link to any of them, and contacted none of them before publication. Nothing here is a recommendation of a card, and nothing here explains how to get a gambling payment past an issuer. Corrections go to the corrections page.

Why does my crypto card decline casino deposits?

Because the issuer, or the programme behind it, has said it will. 2 of 14 cards prohibit gambling in at least one document the issuer publishes, and 2 of those carry the prohibition outside the bank’s own cardholder agreement, which prohibits only illegal gambling.

What happens if a gambling transaction goes through?

It depends on the card type. On a prepaid or debit card, the stated consequence is a breach of the agreement: the KAST US agreement says the cardholder must still pay for a prohibited internet gambling transaction and reimburse the network for its costs. On the Coinbase One credit card it is a cash advance with its own fee. None of the documents read promise that a gambling payment will be declined every time.

How does a gambling block work?

Only one card here offers a block the cardholder controls. It reads the merchant category code, so a correctly coded casino is refused and a miscoded one is not. It is a tool for a player who wants to stop, and its value depends on the merchant telling the truth about what it is. Anyone who wants to stop gambling can find helplines on the responsible gambling page.

What could not be verified

Binance Card, Bybit Card, Gnosis Pay Card, MetaMask Card, Nexo Card. For each, the binding cardholder terms either returned an error, loaded only in part, or were not published at a retrievable address. No position is recorded for them, and each entry says which address failed and when. Absence of a clause on this page is never evidence that gambling is allowed.

How the register is built

Every cardholder agreement, help-centre article and app term was fetched and searched for gambling, betting, casino, wager and lottery, and for merchant category code 7995. A clause is quoted verbatim with its address and the date it was read. Where a document was read and nothing was found, the entry says not disclosed; where it could not be read, not verified. The same method runs on wallets, exchanges and crypto casinos.
