Using a VPN on Sportsbet.io: what its terms say happens
Sportsbet.io's binding terms prohibit using a VPN, proxy or similar service to mask location, and reserve penalties for a player found doing it. The terms separate masking a location to get round territory rules from using the tool for privacy.
What happens if you use a VPN on Sportsbet.io?
Sportsbet.io's terms prohibit masking your location with a VPN or proxy. Stated penalties: balance forfeited, account closed, withdrawal refused. The money penalty reaches the balance, so the whole account is exposed, not one bet. Its terms name 18 restricted countries in full. That list is open-ended. 12 of 24 operators on the register reserve a claim on the money.

This page does not recommend using a VPN and does not explain how to use one. It sets out what Sportsbet.io's own contract says happens to a player who does.
The clause, as the terms write it
The location clause, verbatim, from the document Sportsbet.io publishes as binding. The penalties in the next table come from the VPN clause sweep, read 2026-09-22, which follows the clause into the remedy sections it points to.
By registering an account with us and using the Website you confirm that you're not located in or from a Restricted Jurisdiction and are not using any third party software to access our sites from Restricted Jurisdictions.sportsbet.io
Clause 3.2. The terms never use the words VPN or proxy; the prohibition is on 'any third party software' used to reach the site from a Restricted Jurisdiction, so it is framed around evasion rather than around the tool. Clause 3.3 sets the consequence in the indicative, not as a reserved discretion: 'If you are located in or from a Restricted jurisdiction and you open or use the Website: your account may be closed by us immediately; any winnings and rewards will be confiscated and remaining balance returned (subject to reasonable charges), and any returns, winnings or rewards which you have gained or accrued will be forfeited by you and may be reclaimed by us; and you will return to us on demand any such funds which have been withdrawn'. Closure is discretionary; confiscation of winnings is not. The deposited balance is returned. Clause 2.1.18 separately reserves the right to detect 'geo-location and IP masking'.
What the terms say can happen
Each penalty in the register's vocabulary, and whether Sportsbet.io's terms reserve it for a player found masking location or playing from a restricted territory.
| Penalty | In the terms | What it means for the player |
|---|---|---|
| balance forfeited | Reserved | The operator can keep the money in the account, winnings included. |
| deposit forfeited | Not stated | The deposit itself can be kept, not only what was won with it. |
| account closed | Reserved | The account can be shut, and what is paid out of it is then the operator's decision. |
| bets voided | Not stated | Settled bets can be cancelled, which removes the winnings on them. |
| withdrawal refused | Reserved | A cash-out request can be held or turned down. |
| identity documents demanded | Not stated | Identity and address documents can be demanded before anything is paid. |
Where the terms say you cannot play
Sportsbet.io's terms name 18 countries in full as restricted. The list is open-ended, so a country missing from it is not a country the terms allow. The list, country by country, is on the Sportsbet.io restricted countries page.
What this means in practice
The forfeiture clause reaches the balance, and the balance holds deposits and winnings built up before anything was detected. A player found in breach stands to lose the account, not a single bet.
Identity documents carry a home address, so a residence in a restricted country can come to light whenever Sportsbet.io asks for them. Its KYC terms are classed as required; the clause is on the KYC page.
A complaint about confiscated funds goes to the operator first and then, where a route exists, to the licensing authority. Both read the same contract, and the player accepted the territory clause on sign-up. What a licence issued in Curacao gives a player with a complaint is set out on the Curacao licence page.
Where play needs a local licence
In the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, Australia and Canada (Ontario), online casino play needs a licence issued in that country, and no operator on this register holds one. For those countries the register publishes the legal position and the helpline, not a ranking. A VPN does not change which law applies to the player. Each country's position is on the map.
