Coinbase withdrawal time, fees and cash out
Selling crypto to a Coinbase cash balance is instant. Moving that cash to a bank takes 1 to 5 business days by ACH, about 30 minutes by instant cashout, or a same-day wire for $25, per the Coinbase Help Center on 14 October 2026.

A Coinbase withdrawal to a US bank takes 1 to 5 business days by ACH, about 30 minutes by instant cashout, and the same business day by wire if sent before 1:00 pm PT, according to the Coinbase Help Center read on 14 October
- Selling crypto into the cash balance first is instant. The outgoing US wire costs $25. Coinbase's help pages do not print a percentage for the instant cashout fee.
There are two separate steps behind "cashing out on Coinbase", and most confusion about withdrawal time comes from mixing them up. Step one is the sale: crypto becomes dollars inside the account. Step two is the withdrawal: dollars leave Coinbase for a bank, a debit card or PayPal. Each has its own fees and its own clock. Nothing here is financial or tax advice.
What is a Coinbase withdrawal?
Any movement of value out of the account. In practice that means one of two things: cash sent to a linked payment method, or crypto sent to an outside address. The help centre treats them differently.
A cash withdrawal goes through the "Withdraw Cash" flow covered below. A crypto withdrawal is a send. For sends, the pricing disclosures say "we will charge a fee based on our estimate" of the network cost, and for bitcoin over Lightning "we will charge a processing fee equal to 0.2% of the amount of bitcoin transferred." A crypto send is final once broadcast. Sending to an exchange or casino deposit address on the wrong network is the classic loss; the USDT networks post covers why.
How to cash out on Coinbase
Sell first, then withdraw. The help centre gives these steps.
Selling, in the app: select Buy & Sell, then Sell, choose the crypto and the amount, check the "To" destination (it "defaults to your local currency balance (USD)"), select Review order, then Sell now. The page states: "You can sell your crypto to your cash balance at any time without restriction." The sale price includes a spread. The pricing page prints no percentage for a simple market sell; its 1.875% figure ("Coinbase may also charge a 1.875% Coinbase fee (varies by payment method)") sits in the section on simple limit orders, next to a separate 1% limit order fee. The exact fee is shown on the review screen before confirming.
Withdrawing, on the web: from the Home page select Withdraw Cash, enter the amount (Max takes the full available balance), confirm the currency, choose the destination under Transfer To, select Preview, then "Review withdrawal details and fees, then choose Withdraw Now." That preview screen is the only place a fee figure appears for most methods. The same page says "Cashing out is subject to your transfer protection settings."
How long does a Coinbase withdrawal take?
It depends on the method. Coinbase's US payment methods table, read on 14 October 2026:
| Cash-out method | Speed per Coinbase | Fee stated in the help pages |
|---|---|---|
| Bank account (ACH) | 1-5 business days | Not stated; shown at preview |
| Instant cashout to bank (RTP) | Instant | "Standard transaction fees apply" |
| Debit card | Instant | "Standard transaction fees apply" |
| Wire transfer | 1-3 business days | $25 outgoing (US) |
| PayPal | Instant | Not stated; shown at preview |

Two help pages disagree on ACH. The payment methods table says 1-5 business days. The article on slow sells says "The ACH bank transfer system typically takes 3-5 business days to complete after initiating a sell or withdrawal." Plan on the longer figure.
Business days matter. The timing article says "Processing times are estimated in business days" and "If you initiate a transaction later in the day, it usually starts the next business day." A Friday-evening ACH request can therefore take more than a calendar week. For wires, the funding page says they "typically process the same business day if sent before 1:00 pm PT; otherwise, they'll process the next business day."
Instant cashouts are faster but not always instant. The instant cashout page says they typically take about 30 minutes and can take up to 24 hours, depending on the bank or card provider. They work with debit cards on Visa Fast Funds or Mastercard Send, and, for US customers only, with bank accounts that support Real Time Payments.
What is the Coinbase withdrawal fee?
By method, as far as the help centre states it:
- ACH: no figure in the retail help pages read; the fee shows at preview.
- Wire: "US: $10 for incoming transfers, $25 for outgoing transfers."
- Instant cashout: "Standard transaction fees apply." No percentage or minimum is printed on the help page, so the instant cashout rate is not verified here. The figure is on the preview screen.
- Crypto send: network fee estimate; 0.2% for Lightning bitcoin sends.
The selling fee comes on top. A cash out of crypto therefore pays the spread and any Coinbase fee on the sale, then the withdrawal fee for the method.
Why can't I withdraw my Coinbase balance?
Usually a hold. The available balance article says held cash cannot be cashed out or sent until the hold ends, and that crypto bought with held funds cannot be sent off Coinbase until the hold lifts. Hold length depends on "account history, payment activity, and transaction history", and the article says "For security and fraud prevention purposes, this hold time cannot be altered." Holds typically expire by 11:59 PM PT on the date given in the confirmation email, though the article says disputes or account reviews can extend them.
Limits are the other cause. The account limits page says "In general, Coinbase doesn't limit how much crypto you sell to your Coinbase cash balance", that "Cashing out from Coinbase is dependent on the payment method you use", and that "US customers must have a positive available balance in order to cash out." The instant cashout page puts instant bank cashouts at "a limit of $100,000 per transaction". The per-method limits for a given account are under Settings, Account limits.
A third cause is the account itself. Section 6.10 of the US User Agreement, recorded on the Coinbase register entry, lets Coinbase "suspend, restrict, or terminate your access" at any time. Its Prohibited Use Policy lists unlawful gambling, and the agreement lets Coinbase "cancel, correct, clawback, or reverse" a transfer it suspects relates to a prohibited use. Moving winnings straight from a casino to Coinbase is covered in deposit from exchange to casino risks.
Is cashing out on Coinbase a taxable event?
The sale is. IRS digital asset FAQ Q49 says that on a sale "you must recognize any capital gain or loss on the sale subject to any limitations". Q50 sets the holding period: one year or less is short-term, more than one year is long-term. Withdrawing dollars that are already in the cash balance is not a second sale. This is not tax advice; the IRS page is the source to read.

Scams around cashing out
Coinbase support does not need a seed phrase, a remote-access app or a "verification payment" to release a withdrawal. Messages that ask for any of these follow the pattern set out in the seed phrase post, and paid "recovery" offers are covered on the crypto scam recovery page.
What this does not show
The fee for an ACH, debit card or PayPal cash out, and the instant cashout percentage: the help pages read print no figure and defer to the preview screen. Not verified. Terms for customers outside the US were not read.
