Sending crypto from an exchange straight to a casino: what the exchange can do

In short, from the documents

Can an exchange freeze my account for gambling?

Three of the twelve exchanges on the register, OKX, Bitget and MEXC, prohibit sending funds to gambling with no exception for a licensed casino. OKX and Gate tie a power to freeze or confiscate funds directly to their gambling clause, and Coinbase can claw back a transfer after it has left your account. Binance has no gambling clause at all.

Three of the twelve exchanges on the register, OKX, Bitget and MEXC, prohibit sending funds to gambling with no exception for a licensed casino. Two, OKX and Gate, tie a power to freeze or confiscate funds directly to their gambling clause, and Coinbase can claw back a transfer after it has left your account. Binance, the exchange most people withdraw from, has no gambling clause at all.

Each exchange's binding terms were read on 28 September 2026 and every clause below is quoted on its register entry. The wider picture of which exchanges and DEXes mention gambling is in where crypto casino deposits come from. This piece is about the sanction side: what the exchange can do to the account that sent the money.

Can an exchange freeze my account for gambling?

Yes, on at least two exchanges the gambling clause itself says so. OKX lists gambling in clause 3.1(j) of its Prohibited Businesses. Where it "learn[s] or reasonably suspect[s]" an account is associated with one, it "may suspend or terminate your access to your Account" and "block transactions or freeze your funds immediately without notice". The suspicion is OKX's, formed "in our sole and absolute discretion". See OKX.

Gate goes further. Its clause 2.11 bans "Unregulated casino/online betting/gambling platform" and attaches this:

If we reasonably suspect that you have engaged in, attempted to engage in, or assisted others in engaging in any activity described in the Prohibited Use list, we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to investigate, suspend or terminate your access to the Services, freeze or confiscate funds, and report suspected activity to relevant authorities.

Confiscate is the word. It is the only gambling clause in the register that reaches past a freeze to keeping the money. Gate does not define "unregulated", so the player cannot know from the contract which casinos trigger it. See Gate.

MEXC names "casino games" and "games of chance" in its prohibited businesses and reserves the right "to monitor your transaction and/or account activities" to enforce the list. Bitget's clause 11.1(v) bars "internet gaming" and "games of chance". Neither ties a specific sanction to the gambling line, but both carry general suspension clauses that cover any breach.

Does Coinbase allow casino deposits?

Coinbase restricts gambling "not sanctioned by a governmental body or regulatory authority", so a deposit to a casino that is unlicensed, or unlicensed where the player lives, falls inside its Prohibited Use Policy. The User Agreement then gives Coinbase a power that works after the fact:

We reserve the right to refuse to process, or to cancel, correct, clawback, or reverse, any Digital Asset Transaction or Transfers in our sole discretion, even after funds have been debited from your account(s), in response to a subpoena, court order, or other government order; or if we suspect the transaction may: involve money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, or any other type of financial crime; be erroneous; or relate to a Prohibited Use or a Prohibited Business as set forth in the Prohibited Use Policy.

A second fact matters for anyone searching "Coinbase casino": Coinbase's public currencies endpoint lists 4 USDT networks and Tron is not one of them. A casino that only takes TRC-20 cannot be funded from Coinbase directly at all. See Coinbase.

Does Binance allow gambling transactions?

Binance's documents do not say. The Terms of Use and the Prohibited Use Policy were both searched for gambling, casino, betting and lottery, with no match. Crypto.com Exchange and HTX are silent too. Silence is not a permission slip. Every one of the three reserves the right to suspend an account with immediate effect, and Binance's terms let it "suspend or restrict your access to your Binance Account" without prior notice. A withdrawal from Binance to a casino breaches no named rule and remains exposed to the general one. See Binance.

Is it safer to withdraw to your own wallet first?

For custody, yes. A freeze or confiscation clause reaches only what sits on the exchange. Coins withdrawn to a wallet whose keys you hold are outside it, and a self-custody wallet also lets you pick the network, check the address and send a small test amount before anything larger moves. The wallet safety checklist covers those steps.

The limits are real and the terms spell them out.

The exchange's terms still bind the exchange account. OKX's clause turns on whether the account "is or may be associated with" a Prohibited Business, and MEXC reserves the right to monitor transactions. A public chain shows a withdrawal followed by a deposit to a casino address to anyone who looks. An extra hop changes where the balance sits, not what the contract says.

Some wallets screen too. Exodus reserves the right to "screen users, transactions, wallet addresses, and IP information against applicable Sanctions Lists". OKX Wallet's terms say it "may at our discretion or in coordination with local law enforcement authorities seize, restrict or close your account, fiat currency and Digital Assets". Wallet in Telegram is custodial by its own terms and prohibits "Involvement in gambling activities" outright. On the DEX side, Uniswap and 1inch disclose third-party address screening, though neither lists gambling as a reason to block. Entries are at Exodus, OKX Wallet, Wallet in Telegram and the DEX register.

And none of this makes gambling legal where it is not. Coinbase, Kraken and Bitstamp draw their line at unlawful gambling, which means the law where the player lives decides the answer. A wallet does not move that line. Operator terms on restricted countries are on the casino register.
