Cash App Bitcoin review: licences, terms and gambling clause
Can you deposit to a casino from Cash App Bitcoin?

Disclosure: CryptoGuardz has no commercial relationship with Cash App Bitcoin, earns nothing if you open an account there, and has not contacted the company or given it notice of this entry. Every statement below is either a verbatim quote from a document Cash App Bitcoin publishes or a statement about a public register, and both carry the date they were read. 1. What this means for you
Consequences first, in the conditional, each one produced by a clause in a document Cash App Bitcoin publishes itself. Every line links to that clause, quoted in full and dated.
- Your account can be frozen without notice if Cash App Bitcoin decides it should be The suspension clause is discretionary and its list of grounds closes with a catch-all that swallows the list. The clause is quoted in full below.
- Your withdrawal can be suspended if Cash App Bitcoin decides an incident on the platform requires it The withdrawal clause sets no maximum duration and no external test for when an incident is resolved.
- You are probably not covered by the authorisation you can see if you are outside the European Economic Area The confirmed authorisation is held by the European entity named on it, and the entity that contracts with a user elsewhere is a different company.
- You may breach the terms if the casino you fund is unlicensed where you live Cash App Bitcoin's clause covers unlawful, unregulated or illegal gambling rather than gambling as such. It is quoted in section 10.
2. What this entry records, and what it does not
This register publishes no number for an exchange. The payout score on the casino register has five defined components and a published arithmetic; no equivalent instrument exists here, and inventing one to fill the space would be a measurement nobody made. What follows instead is a field-by-field account of what was read, where it was read and when.
| Binding terms | Read in full 6 clauses captured verbatim across 5 topics, retrieved 2026-10-08 |
|---|---|
| Contracting entity | Block, Inc.No jurisdiction of incorporation stated in the binding document · no company number stated |
| Registration check | 1 confirmed in the issuing authority's own registerESMA interim MiCA register, published CSV, read 2026-10-08 |
| Proof of reserves | No dataNo exchange-hosted disclosure page could be loaded by any route attempted. |
| Insolvency outcome | Stated in the terms Quoted in section 7 |
| Withdrawal test | Not measuredNo first-party deposit or withdrawal has been run against this exchange. It would require funding an account, which this register has not done. Until it has, nothing here is a measurement of how fast the exchange pays. |
| On-chain reserve verification | Not measuredNo independent reconstruction of the Merkle tree or of the exchange's wallet holdings has been attempted. |
3. What we could not verify
Every entry carries this section. The gaps are published because a reader deserves the limits of the check as well as its results.
- The state of incorporation and company number of Block, Inc. Neither appears in the Terms.
- Sections X to XXV of the Terms, including Other Legal Terms and any arbitration and governing law provisions. The retrieved text (138,764 characters) ends mid-sentence in Section IX.3.a, so those sections, and the rest of Section IX, were not read.
- Whether Cash App holds bitcoin in omnibus or segregated wallets. The retrieved text does not say.
- State money transmitter licences other than New York, and the NMLS record. Not read in any register.
- The FinCEN MSB registration. msb.fincen.gov is disallowed by robots.txt to the retrieval tool.
- Any proof of reserves. The Bitcoin Operations help article returned no body text.
- Whether Lightning Network withdrawals are supported. The Bitcoin and Stablecoin Disclosures mention only on-chain withdrawals and do not name stablecoin networks.
4. Who you are contracting with
The counterparty named in the binding document, not the brand on the website. This is the company a claim would be brought against and whose insolvency estate a user would be a creditor of.
| Named counterparty | Block, Inc.source · retrieved 2026-10-08 |
|---|---|
| Jurisdiction of incorporation | Not disclosedNo place of incorporation is stated in the binding document read. What the document does say is in the notes below. |
| Company number | Not disclosedNo company number appears in the binding document, so the entity cannot be looked up in any companies register from that document alone. |
The document read is the Cash App Terms of Service, last updated September 11, 2026. It opens: "These Cash App Terms are a legal agreement between you, as a current or prospective user of the Services, and Block, Inc., formerly known as "Square, Inc."". The only address given is a mailing address, 1955 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, CA 94612. No state of incorporation and no company number are given, so both fields are recorded as not disclosed.
Cash App is a payments app with a bitcoin feature, not a crypto exchange. Bitcoin is bought, sold, held and withdrawn under Section IX, Virtual Currency Services, of the same Terms. The Terms state that FDIC pass-through coverage "does not cover Bitcoin or Investing holdings."
Block's licences page gives NMLS No. 942933 and lists licences in 51 US jurisdictions. Every clause below binds a US user.
5. Registrations, claimed and confirmed
1 of the registrations Cash App Bitcoin claims was found in the issuing authority's own public register. A confirmed registration covers the entity named on it and nothing else. The NYDFS confirmation covers Block, Inc., the counterparty in the Terms read here. Cash App's bitcoin service is US-only in the documents read; no EU or UK registration was sought.
| Authority | Kind | Confirmed | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), virtual currency licence and money transmitter licence | authorisation | yes | Confirmed. The NYDFS page listing regulated virtual currency entities, read 8 October 2026, carries the row: Block, Inc., f/k/a Square, Inc., Virtual Currency and Money Transmitter Licenses, date granted 2018-06. The NYDFS list does not show licence numbers; the number 122486 is Block's own statement. It covers Block, Inc. |
| US state money transmitter licences (51 jurisdictions), as listed by Block | authorisation | no | Block's licences page lists licensing entries in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, including California DFPI License No. 2458. Not confirmed: no state register and no NMLS Consumer Access record was read. |
| Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), money services business registration | authorisation | no | A FinCEN MSB registration is an anti-money-laundering registration, not a licence. Not confirmed: msb.fincen.gov is disallowed to this register's retrieval tool by the site's robots.txt, so the MSB registrant search was not run. Block's licences page does not mention one. |
| European Securities and Markets Authority (MiCA register of non-compliant entities) | adverse listing | not listed | Negative check. The official ESMA register of non-compliant entities providing crypto-asset services was retrieved on 8 October 2026 (173 data rows, ending with a complete row) and searched. The strings Cash App and Square do not appear in it. The string Block appears only inside the unrelated name Blockbyteq (CONSOB, Italy). |
6. Proof of reserves
No Cash App Bitcoin-hosted proof of reserves page could be loaded. Cash App's help article "A Look into Cash App’s Bitcoin Operations" returned only page metadata and no body text, so nothing could be read. No proof of reserves was located elsewhere on cash.app. Recorded as no data.
Nothing is recorded here as a result. The field is No data rather than no, because a page that would not load is not the same as a disclosure that does not exist, and this register does not publish the two as though they were.
7. Custody, segregation and insolvency
What the binding document says about where your coins sit and what happens to them if the exchange fails, quoted rather than characterised.
All Virtual Currency held in your Virtual Currency Account are custodial assets held by us for your benefit.cash.app
All interests in Virtual Currency we hold for customers are not Company property and are not subject to claims of our creditors.cash.app
8. Freezing your account
2 clauses, quoted in the order they appear in the document. Read the last one first: it is the ground that swallows the others.
We have absolute discretion to take any action up to and including suspending or terminating your use of Cash App and the Services at any time without notice for any violations of this Policy that are reported to us.cash.app
In addition, we reserve the right to downgrade your Account type to a Restricted Account or suspend or terminate the Account or access to certain Services of anyone who provides inaccurate, untrue, or incomplete information.cash.app
9. Suspending withdrawals
Any bitcoin or Cash App Balance obtained with such funds may be subject to withdrawal or transfer restrictions for a period of at least 7 days and in some cases as much as 60 days.cash.app
10. Sending funds to a casino from Cash App Bitcoin
Cash App Bitcoin's terms restrict gambling only where it is unlawful, unregulated or illegal. Whether a deposit to a given casino breaches them depends on that casino's licence and on where you are.
Activity where an individual risks anything of value to get something of value based on a certain outcome. This does not include legal activity with merchants approved by the Company and the Company’s banking partners.cash.app
We have absolute discretion to take any action up to and including suspending or terminating your use of Cash App and the Services at any time without notice for any violations of this Policy that are reported to us.cash.app
Gambling is listed under "What's not allowed" in the Acceptable Use Policy, with an exception only for legal activity with merchants approved by Block and its banking partners. The Terms of Service separately bar receiving business Earnings Transactions for "(15) betting, including lottery tickets, sports related gambling, casino gaming chips, off-track betting, and wagers at races" (Section VII, Unsupported Industries). The policy applies across Cash App and the Services; the retrieved text did not show a gambling clause specific to bitcoin.
11. Which networks Cash App Bitcoin withdraws USDT on
1 USDT networks listed with withdrawals enabled on 2026-10-08, including Bitcoin. Tron is not among them.
Cash App's crypto offering is bitcoin, so BTC is recorded instead of USDT. The Bitcoin and Stablecoin Disclosures state "Currently, there is a ₿5,000 minimum for on-chain withdrawals." They say Cash App "may offer services involving stablecoins" processed "on specific blockchain networks" without naming any stablecoin or network, so no stablecoin chain is counted. Source. Which DEXes operate on each of those chains is in the DEX register.
12. Amendment, liquidation, arbitration and governing law
The clauses that decide what the contract can become, what can be done to an open position, and where a dispute would be heard.
We may amend these Cash App Terms at any time with notice that we deem to be reasonable under the circumstances, by posting the revised version on our website, or by communicating it to you through the Services (each a "Revised Version").cash.app
13. Public record
Matters of public record, taken from primary sources and stated with them. They are not scored, because a historical event is not a measurement of how the exchange behaves today, and leaving them out while citing the sources would be worse.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau "ordered Block, the operator of the peer-to-peer payments app Cash App, to refund and pay other redress to consumers up to $120 million and pay a penalty of $55 million into the CFPB’s victims relief fund."
The New York State Department of Financial Services announced "that Block, Inc. will pay a $40 million penalty for significant failures in its Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering compliance program, which violated the Department's money transmitter and virtual currency regulations." The release states: "Notably, Block's lax treatment of high-risk Bitcoin transactions allowed largely anonymous transactions to proceed without proper scrutiny." A consent order was issued the same day.
14. Who should avoid Cash App Bitcoin
Anyone outside the European Economic Area who is relying on the authorisation they can see. The confirmed authorisation is held by the European entity named on it and covers that company's clients. A user elsewhere is contracting with a different entity under different terms.
